Both adults and children have different body types, so there is no perfect weight for everyone. Even within a group of peers, there are clear differences. Some babies are more muscular, others less. There are also differences in body development. The diversity of children's figures is related, among other things, to the rate of sexual development.

Each child develops at its own pace. During puberty, your baby's body begins to secrete hormones that contribute to physical changes. Girls have breasts and boys have enlarged testicles. At the same time, there is a rapid growth in children of both sexes. The maturation period lasts for several years.
During this time, most babies grow up to 25 cm. In addition to height, the child's weight also increases, which is influenced by changes in muscles, fat and bones. However, it should be remembered that these changes occur at different times in each child. Some children start puberty as early as age 8, others as early as 14.
For this reason, peers of the same sex and height may have completely different weight. Differences in appearance can be a source of complexes for teenagers - children compare themselves with more developed peers and often feel dissatisfied with their body.

Specialists have developed a method of assessing weight in relation to height. The BMI index allows you to assess how much body fat a person has, based on his height and weight. Calculating BMI is easy, and you can also use the BMI calculators found on many health websites. Although the BMI is calculated the same for children and adults, deciphering the result for children is a bit more complicated.
Consider percentile grids that have numerous curves that indicate whether the child is overweight, at a normal weight, or underweight. Other nets are designed for boys and girls because the amount of body fat varies between the sexes as the children grow.

Each BMI grid is divided into percentiles. The weight of a child with a BMI of 5-85 is considered to be correct for a given age. If the child's weight is in the range of 85-94, the result is overweight. On the other hand, a result above the 95th percentile indicates obesity in a child. In contrast, a child below the 5th percentile is underweight.
Before measuring your child's BMI, carefully examine their height and weight. The bathroom scale may give inaccurate results, so it is best to rely on measurements taken at the doctor's office. After the measurement is obtained, it is worth consulting a doctor who will assess the result, taking into account the moment of puberty in the child, as well as its earlier results.

It is worth remembering that BMI is not enough to assess the weight of a child. Strongly muscled people have a higher BMI, even though they have muscle instead of a lot of body fat. Likewise, a person with a low BMI may have too much body fat.
