Prophylaxis of pinworms

Anyone who has dealt with pinworms knows that treatment is sometimes very long and requires a lot of self-control. Particularly troublesome is frequent bed linen changes and very thorough cleaning, which is necessary in the fight against these parasites, but unfortunately also time-consuming. Therefore, it is better to protect yourself against reinfection and take the appropriate steps now.

1. Science of hygiene

Pinworms most often appear in children. This is because they do not yet have established hygiene habits. They have a hard time remembering to wash their hands often, and they often put their fingers in their mouths. Toddlers forget or wash their hands carelessly. So it is very important to teach them hygiene rules from an early age.

Hands should be washed after each return from the yard, using the toilet and before meals. It's best to use soap and warm water. For a better effect, you can also use a nail brush, as there may be invasive pinworm eggs underneath them.

Learning while having fun gives the best results. This method is especially effective for young children. To encourage them to wash their hands after coming from the playground and before meals, we can give small prizes such as stickers that the child will collect. If he collects a given pot, he will receive, for example, a badge or a small toy.

Another way that is just as helpful is to buy soap in a funny package and a nail brush in the shape of a pet. There are gels and soaps in the shape of ducks, penguins or characters from fairy tales such as Angry Birds.

In addition to washing your hands frequently, it is also important to wash fruits and vegetables before eating them. Pinworm eggs are very light and can settle on food when lifted by the air. Even if a given fruit or vegetable is peeled before eating it, it is worth washing it beforehand.

2. In the yard

Children love to play in the sandbox. Making cakes or preparing mud soups is one of their favorite games. Unfortunately, the sandbox is a paradise for bacteria, viruses and parasites, which can easily get into the child's mouth with the sand on dirty hands.

If we cannot wash the child's hands, it is worth having an antibacterial gel or wet wipes with which you can easily wipe your hands. In addition, the use of the gel will protect the toddler against the so-called. diseases of dirty hands. You should also remember not to give your child food during a walk if we do not have a way to wash our hands. Better to wait until you get home with your meal.

3. At home

The prophylaxis of pinworms is also keeping order. To do this, vacuum frequently, mop the floor with warm water and change the mop tips frequently. Additionally, it is necessary to wet the chicken, which reduces the risk of floating invasive pinworm eggs. It is also a good idea to disinfect mattresses.

4. Nursery and kindergarten

Children attending nurseries or kindergartens are particularly vulnerable to pinworms. A large number of babies in one place favors the transmission of invasive parasite eggs.

In the event that pinworms are infected, we should notify the management of the facility. Many parents fail to do this, exposing their other children to pinworms. After such information, the management should first inform other parents about the risk of infection and disinfect toys and kindergarten rooms, as well as change and wash bedding, if the children are lying down.
